About Us
Worthing Radio Events Group was formed late in 2001, from an idea by the founder members, G3YSW, Chris Thrower, G4HNU, and G7RQD. The main aim of the group is to provide publicity for Amateur Radio in the Worthing area, have fun using radio, making aerials and involve younger people in the hobby.
Members of the group have organized and run training courses for the Foundation and Intermediate Amateur radio licence exams in conjunction with the Worthing and District Amateur Radio Club.
By the end of 2002, the group had grown to 7 members. The group has access to a large field, giving us a working base with enough room to build and erect various antennas with which we have entered contests and field days.
We hold various events throughout the year, which include radio and non radio days (family events). Everyone always attends the summer barbecue. We have held a joint rally with VMARS, and hope to do the same again this year.
We have participated in Jamboree on the Air, both in Sussex and Surrey, and some of the members took part in Science Week 2005, where we set up 4 exhibition stations during 4 days at various local schools, along with lectures and hands on exhibits such as Morse Code and Short Wave receiving. We are working with Cub Scout and Scout troops in the area to help them achieve their Communications Badge.
As of September 2008, the group has grown to 17 members, from varying backgrounds, and ages from 18 to 70+.
We are affiliated to the RSGB
